In 1899, French Impressionist painter Claude Monet captured his beloved water garden at Giverny, France in a painting called 'The Water-Lily Pond' - one of the most recognised paintings in the world! Monet was so captivated by his garden that he painted it over 250 times!
Look closely - notice how the bridge is deliberately cut off at the edges, making it appear to float weightlessly over the water! This clever compositional trick is one of Monet's most distinctive techniques!
